Meet Spectrum’s New Music Director

Kevin Fitzgerald has assumed the baton as Music Director of Spectrum Orchestra. A resident of Brighton, Kevin is a graduate student at the University of Michigan as well as an accomplished trumpet player.

He is completing a Master’s of Music degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Kenneth Kiesler. Kevin has led the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, University Philharmonia Orchestra, and University Graduate Percussion Ensemble in addition to holding the assistant conductor positions with the University Life Sciences Orchestra and the Campus Symphony Orchestra. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music where he studied trumpet, music theory and conducting. While at Eastman, Kevin conducted the Eastman Wind Orchestra, RestIsNoise Contemporary Ensemble as well as the Graduate Chamber Orchestra. Fitzgerald is an avid proponent of contemporary music and has conducted premieres of over twenty five works.

Kevin Fitzgerald will lead his first concert with Spectrum Orchestra on April 17, 2015 at Seaholm High School.

Spectrum’s first music director, Daniel Brier, is now the Assistant Conductor of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, where he leads Family Discovery Concerts and the organization’s educational programs.
