Rebecca Lord
Assistant Conductor
Rebecca Lord, Assistant Conductor, brings a rich background as a conductor, violinist, and soprano. Her conducting work includes performances with the Berlin Sinfonietta, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, UCLA Philharmonia, Symphony, and Early Music Ensemble, as well as the BYU–Idaho Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band.
Previous positions include Associate Director of Choral Activities at UCLA, choral conducting faculty at Brigham Young University–Idaho, Chorus Master and Assistant Orchestra Conductor of Arizona Musicfest, and Assistant Conductor of the internationally televised Hour of Power Choir. She also pioneered a UCLA outreach program that reached thousands of students in underserved communities. She has conducted in venues from inner-city schools to Carnegie Hall and is equally at home with orchestral and choral repertoire.
Rebecca earned her MM and DMA in conducting at UCLA under Donald Neuen. She has pursued additional orchestral studies with Kenneth Kiesler (University of Michigan), Rotem Weinberg, musicologist Steven Whiting, and other faculty of the Conductor’s Retreat at Medomak.
In addition to her role with Spectrum, Rebecca is the Music Director of First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor. She also recently founded the Huron Valley Chamber Orchestra, a professional ensemble based in the Ann Arbor area with upcoming collaborative performances at the First Congregational Church. Beyond the podium, she treasures life with her young daughter and is a passionate advocate for the power of music to build community.
